The Kettle Falls 'Grouch'

Right before you cross the Columbia River or arrive at the town of Kettle Falls. Many believe there must be a somewhat strange sense of humor existing here in Kettle Falls, because as you enter town there's a sign "Kettle Falls. 1550 Friendly People & 1 Grouch." Everyone that enters Kettle Falls and sees the signs at each end of town wants to know,

Who’s the Grouch?

The 2008 Kettle Falls 'Grouch' was decided at the Town & Country Days Event early in June. All three candidates fought a grumpy battle for votes (quarters) and the winner as it is every year was Kettle Falls with all monies raised going to the Community event.

However, in the end someone is named the Town Grouch .....
This year the title goes to SUSAN BROWN
If you want to meet her she is usually found at her shop - ' Old Apple Warehouse'

The other candidates in the race were:

Brennan Buckley-Noonan .... Who created history by being the first 10 Y.O to willingly be called a Grouch Candidate.
His fund raising efforts were rewarded by being awarded Kettle Falls 1st 'Youth Grouch' Title

David Bull (Blue Moose Cabins) also ran (But lost)....
In true grouch fashion he is already threatening to run next year with a new campaign slogan
"Remember Me ... I'm Back .... and I'm really GROUCHY now'

2008 Kettle Falls Grouch

How is the 'Grouch' Chosen?

Rather than single out one poor individual and name him/her the most cantankerous individual,
(that just wouldn’t be right).

So the only fair way is to hold a election each year where area residents nominate their favorite candidate, the person they feel most deserves the title.

The election is open from April 1st to the final day of Kettle Falls
Town and Country Days’ celebration.

Now holding a simple, old fashioned election just wouldn’t do, not here in Kettle Falls.
(We do things a little different).

Each vote costs you 25 cents, and you can vote as many times as you want for your favorite candidate.

It has been known "that these elections can be bought." It is even suspected that on occassions family and friends conspire to elect an individual or spend their entire inheritance and life savings just to get a fellow elected.

But ... that would be unfair so there is reluctance to investigate the theory or officially confirm these allegations

All proceeds go in the 'Town and Country Days' funds and help put on the event.
